Memorial Day 2012

William A. Gonski

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?

(My father US Army WWII. These are his photos from his service in the Aleutian Islands.)

Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?

Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

"Tree--Only One on Attu"

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?

Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?

Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I used to sing that song and "Where have all the flowers gone?" to Ronnie when he was a baby and his dad was in Viet Nam.

I love both songs and had actually played with ideas for each one before settling on "Blowin' in the Wind." It's sad that these songs are still so timely today. Be sure and give Ron a hug this weekend and tell him that we say "thank you" to him for his service also.
